History of the Uniting Trafalgar Presbyterian Church
The Trafalgar Presbyterian Church had its humble beginnings in various venues on the lower south coast, starting in 1981.However, in January 1991,the first service was held in their new home at a community hall, belonging to the Trafalgar Advisory Board. This remained the place of worship for the congregation until 2011 when the Hibiscus Coast Municipality gave notice of their intention to sell the property. The Trafalgar congregation was very fortunate in being given access to the Mbizana Mission Church, which was to become their “new home.” The church relocated in 2012 to the mission church.
HISTORY OF MBIZANA MISSION CHURCH
The mission station was established by Mr Alfred Eyles, formerly of Wilks, near Bath in England in 1884. He was granted permission by Chief Makala to grow crops and start a mission school. The foundations of the church were laid in 1894 and the building was used as a school during the week and a church on Sundays. The Peckham family now own the farm on which the mission church stands, and Trafalgar Presbyterian Church has moved into this lovely old building situated in Bushy Vales, near Southbroom.
